Old Town Square

Prague’s Old Town Square is regarded as the centre of the city for several reasons. On the one hand it has witnessed many a historical as well as more temporary event – some could even be seen as cruel, but most importantly great many events celebrating happiness, enjoyment, meeting with others and celebrations.

With its almost circular shape, Old Town Square makes it possible to see almost the entire square from the one spot, its historical buildings – Old Town Hall, the Tyn Cathedral, the Hussite Church of St. Nicholas in Old Town, the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, the Kinsky Palace, the House at the Stone Bell, the Jan Hus Memorial and many beautiful arcades.

Old Town Square is transected by the Royal Route and the Prague meridian.

Every hour the Old Town Astronomical Clock amazes with its promenade of apostles, and the Old Town Hall tower offers breathtaking views not only of the square but of almost all of central Prague, with an unforgettable view of Prague Castle.

Old Town Square is a part of Prague’s historical centre which is listed in the UNESCO register of cultural monuments in the Czech Republic.
